Mountain Stage and Remembering Our First Show

Boy how time flies….

Can’t believe it was already five years ago that we did our first show as Caravan of Thieves in Fairfield, CT at FTC StageOne on March 22, 2008, opening for our good friends, the Ryan Montbleau Band. Originally booked as a “Fuzz and Carrie” duo show, we showed up unannounced and to everyone’s surprise with Brian and Ben, a whole new set of material, new sound, new clothes and new name, “Caravan of Thieves.” The rest is history…

So in lieu of all this nostalgia, we figured we would celebrate our five year anniversary with a few shows in Florida as well as a few other exciting new shows just added to our tour schedule and with the airing of our NPR Mountain Stage performance starting on the actual day of our anniversary, March 22! Funny how these things happen. Our performance on Mountain Stage was recorded this past December along with amazing artists Robert Cray, Shemekia Copeland and Kelly Hogan. Be sure to give it a listen… we all sang, strummed, banged on a few pots and pans and raised the dead and everyone had a good old time. For a list of stations that will be airing the Mountain Stage performance, click here.

The show is now available to stream from NPR’s online archive here. Let’s celebrate!

Yours truly,
Fuzz, Carrie, Ben and Brian

Spring Tour and Our Five-Year Anniversary

We are packing up our instruments, a new bag of kitchen appliances and junk to bang on, and one small furry animal… and we are hitting the road! We began working on our next album this winter so we will be trying out a bunch of new songs and additions for the show as well as some of the previous “hits.” And this spring we will be celebrating our five-year anniversary on March 22nd, which coincidentally is the date our Mountain Stage performance will air, so tune in or just come out to celebrate with us.

On our way down the Eastern Seaboard, westward to Colorado and back through the Midwest, we’ll be snapping pics of the best dressed freaks at our shows (not including us) and posting the best of the best on our Facebook. Cast your vote for whoever’s dressed the most elegant, inspired, and, well, freaky to be our “Freak of the Week!” Stir up some fashion ideas by perusing our past Freaks of the Week on Facebook.

Check the schedule to find out if we are in your neck of the woods… because as we like to say, run away from home and join the Caravan!!!

Yours truly,
Fuzz, Carrie, Ben and Brian

Update On Our “Homeless for the Holidays” Initiative

Season’s Greetings!

First off we’d like to wish everyone a cheerful and positive holiday season, as tough as that might seem after an especially violent and socially disconnected year. Some might say we’ve lost our way and perhaps that is true, but we’ve traveled all over this country a few times over in 2012 and it’s hard not to see the beauty and potential we all have in us as a species. That is evident in the ongoing kindness, joy and hospitality we see out on the road and at our shows, everyone’s willingness to embrace their own as well as their neighbor’s individuality (inner freak as we say) and the generosity and response we’ve seen in regards to our “Homeless for the Holidays” tour and fundraiser. We just mailed out a check for $1,400 to the National Alliance to End Homelessness and assisting this great organization with money solely generated from download sales of our two holiday songs, sales from our “I Don’t Want Anything for Christmas” pins at shows and just a few extra special donations has truly been an honor. We can’t thank you enough, not just for helping out the homeless population this holiday season but also creating a tiny spark of light and hope for the whole human race. Enough tiny sparks and you have a full blown fireworks show!

Best wishes, happy holidays, peace and love to our freaky family,

Fuzz, Carrie, Ben and Brian

New Track: “I Don’t Want Anything For Christmas”

Thank you for helping us prevent homelessness this holiday season! The next song we have for you is our seasonal and appropriately titled “I Don’t Want Anything For Christmas,” something we started piecing together last December when thinking of the many people in the world with barely enough to survive on, and inversely the excessive spending and gift giving many of us participate in every year around this time. So we are doing away with Black Friday (and all the insanity that goes along with it). Instead you can make a purchase that helps those who won’t have a holiday or even a home this winter. When you purchase “I Don’t Want Anything For Christmas” (or our Halloween song, “Ms Priscilla Pumpkin” – see below) half the money goes to the National Alliance to End Homelessness.

Download the track and find out more here.
